The country covers an area of over 78000 square kilometers and has approx.. 10,5 million inhabitants. It borders Germany, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Austria. The Vaclav Havel international airport in Prague is reachable from all major European hubs within 2,5 hours.

The Czech Republic is a two-chamber parliamentary democracy with a President as the head of the state. It is a member of the EU, NATO, UN or IMF and the World Bank Group. The Czech Republic is also a member of the Schengen area, however, is not a member of the Eurozone. The local currency is still a Czech Crown.
The modern history of the country started after the Velvet revolution in 1989 when the Communist regime fell after 40 years and the Czech Republic started its transition towards a democratic system and a free market economy. The Czech Republic is nowadays ranked as the 7th most peaceful country in the world.
